Vancouver: The only person ever convicted in the Air India bombings has cancelled his own parole hearing.
Inderjit Singh Reyat is serving time in a federal prison for manslaughter and was supposed to be interviewed by a National Parole Board panel on June 14.
But the parole board says the hearing has been cancelled because Reyat has asked for a review using only file information.
The board says offenders cancel hearings for a number of reasons, for example if they're too nervous to appear or feel they are not likely to be granted release.
Spokeswoman Heather Byron says it's not clear when a decision based on the paper review will be made.
Reyat will have served his full sentence by next Feb. 9.
Air India Flight 182 exploded off the coast of Ireland on June 23, 1985, killing 329 people, the same day two baggage handlers at Tokyo's Narita airport were killed when a bomb in a suitcase being transferred to another Air India flight exploded.
Reyat, a onetime electrician from Duncan, B.C., has been in prison since 1989 after being extradited from Britain and later sentenced to 10 years for building the bombs.
