Paris: International Aero Engines' first engine featuring the V2500 SelectOne package of upgrades entered the test cell in May, according to Jon Beatty, who took over as president of IAE in January.
IAE is using three test engines in the development program with first flight tests scheduled this summer. Engine certification is expected at the end of this year, with certification on the A320 expected in the fourth quarter of 2008 followed by entry into service with launch customer IndiGo Airlines, the Indian new entrant.
V2500 Select One will provide a 1% fuel-burn improvement with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions, plus an anticipated 15%-20% reduction in maintenance cost primarily owing to the lower operating temperature of the engine.
The company is packaging the SelectOne engine with a maintenance program that includes fuel burn, time-on-wing and maintenance benefits.
