Jet Airways may ring down profits in fourth quarter

Mumbai: Aviation sector analysts expect India’s largest private sector airline Jet Airways Ltd to post significantly lower profits for the January-March, 2007 quarter, compared to the corresponding period in fiscal 2006.
While the company raked in a net profit of Rs 227 crore in the last quarter of fiscal 2006, it is expected to post profits in the region Rs 20 crore in the same period in fiscal 07, according to analysts who track the sector.
Says Surabhi Chawla, an aviation sector analyst with Angel Broking, "According to our study, we expect Jet Airways to post a net profit of Rs 20 crore for the fourth quarter. Factors driving profits include enhanced domestic as well as international seat capacity.”
However, profit margins are likely to remain sluggish in the last quarter of 2007, compared to the year ago period. Moreover, for the entire fiscal 2007, analysts expect Jet to post either a marginal profit or losses. The company had posted profits of Rs 452.04 crore during fiscal 2006.
