Kingfisher to get nod for int’l service by Jan

New Delhi: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s Kingfisher Airlines is likely to get the government approval to fly international in January 2008, before it has completed even three years in service, civil aviation ministry sources said on Monday. The ministry has also indicated that permission to fly on international routes will be given to airlines on a case-to-case basis and a minimum of five years of experience will no longer be required.
FE was the first to report (on March 23) the civil aviation ministry’s proposal of completely dismantling the minimum five-year experience requirement and base the criteria primarily on a minimum fleet and paid-up equity requirement.
The civil aviation ministry had earlier indicated that the international flying requirements would be brought down from five-year to a minimum of three-year experience. But, Mallya had always maintained that he will not let the long-haul aircraft stand idle and if government approval could not be obtained, he would fly from the US into India. He has already mooted a new company Kingfisher International Ltd, which will allow the company to fly from the USA to India in case the government does not relax the present norms.
