Visakhapatnam: The operation of flights in the 10,000-ft new runway and the commissioning of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) in the Visakhapatnam airport would take place most probably in the third week of June after a team of the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials inspects them and give clearance.
Visakhapatnam MP N. Janardhana Reddy said that everything was moving in the right direction and the runway would be ready by June 15. He has been constantly taking up the issue with the civil aviation and the defence ministries on the need to give early clearance, he said.
The civil works to set right the minor defects in the new runway as pointed out by the defence authorities - like filling of joints, potholes etc., are going on in full swing and are likely to be completed by June 10. After that the DGCA inspection team would visit the city.
