New Delhi: The recent round of acquisitions may have made Indian Airlines the third largest domestic airline, but it still carries an average of about 32,900 passengers on its 320-odd flights daily. And the ongoing strike by around 12,000 employees has put a large number of passengers in a fix.
With cabin crew at several stations not being allowed to report for duty, a large number of flights were cancelled and others operated with long delays. A Delhi High Court order asking employees to withdraw strike now seems to be the only hope for passengers.
Being peak holiday season — in which passengers book tickets months in advance and almost all carriers are running full — stranded IA passengers are finding it hard to find alternative flights to their destinations.
With the union adamant on continuing the indefinite strike, IA CMD V Trivedi said some flights would be cancelled now on.
The Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) has also stepped in to help reduce passenger woes. FIA chairman and Air India CMD V Thulasidas said attempts are being made to ensure that stranded passengers get alternative flights.
