New Delhi: Technical snags have drastically ruined the credibility of the state-owned airlines, Indian and Air-India, now merged into a new entity named Air India, but the civil aviation ministry is yet to work out its proposed three-pronged check for all aircraft before take-off.
The move came into effect soon after a series of snags in aircraft a month ago, when the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had chalked out a plan under which maintenance engineers would thoroughly check all planes every two days as part of the first stage. This was to be followed by repeat checks from quality assurance teams of A-I and IA. In the third stage, DGCA teams would check the entire fleet.
Senior DGCA officials, however, argue that a group of maintenance engineers already makes a thorough inspection before any aircraft is given approval for take-off.
