New Delhi: Passengers travelling to Mumbai from the Capital on Saturday were in for a long wait as torrential rain in Mumbai wrought havoc with flight schedules. Six Delhi-bound flights were cancelled making it difficult for those wanting to get to the Capital for the weekend.
Bringing the airport to a virtual standstill, flight operations were suspended for over an hour from 11-45 a.m. due to low visibility in Mumbai. However, things improved after 3 p.m. and flights scheduled for later in the evening managed to get off the ground.
With the Meteorological Department forecasting a weekend of heavy rain, the situation is unlikely to improve very soon. And those flying into Mumbai need to be prepared for long delays.
“We suggest that passengers coming into the city should check the weather report. They should also check with their airlines to ensure that their flight is on time before they leave for the airport,” warned an official from Mumbai airport.
