Devanahalli to get a weather station

Bangalore: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) will set up a full-fledged weather monitoring centre at the upcoming greenfield airport at Devanahalli. The station will be established at the Bangalore International Airport Limited site before the airport becomes operational in April 2008.
"Unlike other weather monitoring centres, used for non-aviation purposes, the weather station at the international airport will operate on every half-hour basis, similar to the weather station at HAL Airport. We'll establish the new station before flights operate at the new airport," IMD director G S Vijay Raghavan, told TOI.
The weather stations operating for non-aviation purposes monitor weather once every three hours, that's eight readings in 24 hours. There are five such stations in Bangalore. The weather observatory at the Sompura cloverleaf junction of BMIC project is a recent addition.
The weather station at the new airport will monitor different parameters including temperature, wind speed, rainfall, etc.
