Pune: Authorities at Pune’s airport face an uncanny situation as they will have to accommodate domestic airliners flying to various sectors from Lohegaon within the allotted eight hours daily.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) had recently acceded to a proposal from the Pune airport authorities to allow eight flying hours daily once the runway recarpeting work begins on September 1.
Up to 60 flights land and take off from the airport daily, with the number even touching 68 on certain days.
Airport officials have admitted that there is a possibility that about half of the landings and take-offs will have to be temporarily suspended during the recarpeting work. “Airliners may have to divert their operations for the intermediate period,” an official said.
“Currently, around 15 take-offs take place between 10.30 am and 6.30 pm, but we will try to squeeze in some more,” said the official, adding that a revised schedule would be announced in the next 10 days.
