Jupiter plans $100 m JV with Kingfisher

Bangalore: Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s Jupiter Aviation is set to float a joint venture with Kingfisher-Air Deccan combine for an over $100 million maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) project in Bangalore.
The JV will be positioned as a global aviation outsourcing hub that will also cater to training and design needs of global carriers. Jupiter is an exclusive partner of Airbus parent European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS) for MRO and life-cycle support of commercial aircraft in India.
The project size will be significantly bigger if the cost for land is also accounted for. It will be a joint venture with Kingfisher Airlines and Air Deccan holding around 50% and Jupiter owning the remaining stake. The project, likely to be spearheaded by Deccan chairman GR Gopinath, is significant to Airbus as Kingfisher-Deccan combine is now its biggest global client with around 150 aircraft, including firm orders in the pipeline.
Interestingly, the move comes even as Jupiter-EADS is also working on a proposed MRO project with national carrier Indian in Delhi.
