New Delhi: The first state-run low cost domestic airline is all set to take wings from October 1 with two brand new Boeing 737-800s and the existing fleet of Alliance Air.
While the ticket pricing would be comparable to those offered by current LCCs, the merged Air India Express will also offer meals on board. Based on the Southwest model, food packets will be kept at the entrance of the aircraft and passengers would pick them up while going to their seats. The airline will target truck routes between big cities as also sector that are not fully covered by full service carriers.
Interestingly, AI is also heaving a sigh of relief that following Kingfisher CEO Vijay Mallaya acquiring stake in Air Deccan, the latter will not be able to offer 'suicidal' fares any longer. Because of this, the newly merged LCC will not be forced to sell tickets at below cost price.
