Accenture to study MRO facility for AI-IA

New Delhi: The civil aviation ministry has asked Accenture, the consultants for Air India-Indian Airlines merger, to study various options for setting up maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility for the merged entity and submit a report in four weeks. “A decision will be taken on setting up the MRO centre only after the report is given,” Air India chairman and managing director V Thulasidas said.
While Air India has already tied up for MRO support with US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing, Indian Airlines has joined hands for airframe maintenance with Bangalore-based Jupiter Aviation.
According to Thulasidas, a lot of progress has been made towards the merger of the two airlines in the areas of coordinating work, rationalising the routes, planning out a common IT platform for both the airlines, and progress towards joining a global airline alliance. He said as soon as the merger gets the approval of the corporate affairs ministry, flights under the brand of the combined entity would take to the skies. “We believe the overall legal process would coming to an end,” he said.
