Handing over of Nagpur airport to take time

Mumbai/Nagpur: The impasse over handing over Nagpur’s Dr B R Ambedkar International Airport to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) will continue for another six months or so.
The Union civil aviation ministry conveyed the same to the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court here.
This was said in response to a petition questioning the delay in handing over the airport as well as speeding up work on the ambitious Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) or cargo hub project.
The communication from the Union aviation ministry was presented to the court by additional solicitor general of India S K Mishra wherein the ministry sought six months to reach a decision on approving an MoU signed by the MADC and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on December 18, 2006.
The MoU details the process of handing over the airport to a JV company floated by the AAI and MADC as a special purpose vehicle to operate it. The Civil
Aviation Ministry told the High Court that the issue of approval of the MoU and the consequent handing over of the airport to the JVC was under consideration.
