Cooch Behar: Air services would resume here on 15 August, the Independence Day. According to the Airport Authority of India sources, efforts are on to make the Cooch Behar airport operational by 15 August as was announced earlier.
Additional district magistrate (development) Mr Pannalal Mahapatra said the regional director (east) of Airport Authority of India Mr SP Bakshi is supervising the work and that a trial flight would take off from the airport on 10 August. A special aircraft of Indian Airlines is likely to be used for the test flight.
Meanwhile, the officials are working round-the-clock to improve infrastructure at the Cooch Behar airport. The passenger lounge is being fitted with air conditioner and steps are being taken to introduce other facilities at the airport, Mr Mahapatra, said. The ADM (G) claimed that Air Deccan, Alliance Air and Kingfisher are interested to operate flights from the Cooch Behar airport.
