Jet Airways: I'll Take Manhattan

Indian carrier Jet Airways Sunday added the United States to its international routes, with the launch of a flight from Mumbai to New York (via Brussels).
As per government rules, Indian carriers need to fly on domestic routes for five years before they can fly to international destinations. Jet Airways already flies to destinations in Europe and Asia and plans to start flights to Johannesburg, Toronto, Shanghai and San Francisco in the coming months.
“We will look at strengthening our presence in this [U.S.] sector. The introduction of wide-bodied aircraft from the beginning of next year would be one such step,” CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer told the media. Jet is the second domestic carrier after Indian Airlines to fly to the United States.
Jet is flying its new Boeing 777-300, which can carry more than 300 passengers, and company officials said the inaugural flight was fully booked. The daily flight, carrying passengers in the standard three classes, will have round-trip tickets priced within a range of $1,000 to $10,250.
The 14-year-old airline, India’s largest in the private sector, said its U.S. flights were booked to capacity for the week.
