Loss incurred by Indian during June flash strike 3.5 crore

The estimated loss incurred by Indian Airlines and Alliance Air during the flash strike by the employees of Indian Airlines in the month of June 2007, is Rs. 3.5 crores by way of loss of contribution, additional expenditure on hotel, food and conveyance charges for disrupted flights etc. This information was given by Shri Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation in the Parliament today.
Employees of Indian Airlines covered by Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU) had gone on flash strike w.e.f. night shift of 12th June, 2007 all over India. The strike was called off on the afternoon of 14th June, 2007. ACEU had been demanding revision of wages and allowances w.e.f. 1.1.1997 and better career progression. The negotiations in this regard were initiated in February, 2007 but, when no satisfactory agreement was reached and the ACEU adopted an agitational approach, the matter was seized with Chief Labour Commissioner (Central). Even as the conciliation proceedings were underway with the Chief Labour Commissioner(Central), the ACEU suddenly called for a flash strike.
