Thiruvananthapuram airport turning more passenger-friendly

Thiruvananthapuram: The premier international airport of the State, the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, will further turn passenger-friendly with the commissioning of the Rs.12.35 crore aerobridge, air-conditioned bus lounge and two additional parking bays on the Shanghumughom side within the next three months.
“The work on installing the air-conditioner and laying tiles in the 55-metre corridor from the security hold area of the first floor of the terminal and the bus lounge is on,” Airport Director K. Natarajan told The Hindu. The aerobridges would cater to the all aircraft, including Boeing and the wide-bodied Jumbo.
The AAI has also strengthened the adjacent parking bays near the proposed aerobridge to ensure that the aircraft could approach the terminal building for docking with the aerobridge.
Mr. Natarajan said the bus lounge which was getting ready near the first aerobridge for commissioning would be used for transporting passengers to the aircraft that cannot be connected to the aerobridge.
The 450-sq.m. lounge can accommodate 300 passengers at a time.
The work for the two parking bays, being constructed on the Shanghumughom side, at a cost of Rs.8 crore was in full swing. With this, the number of parking bays in the airport would go up to 11. The bays would be commissioned before November this year, he said.
