AI, IA to transfer ticketing code to Nacil

Mumbai: The Air India (AI) and Indian (IA) would soon transfer the ticketing numeric code to the newly formed National Aviation Company of India (Nacil). AI, IA, Nacil and International Air Transport Association (IATA) have signed a tripartite agreement for such a transfer.
Sources informed that "AI's 098 code and IA's 058 code would coexist till the information technology platforms would be integrated. Till that time 098-Nacil A would be used for AI and 058-Nacil I would be for IA. The IT platform integration would be possible in 12 to 24 months."
Sources noted that IATA codes are an integral part of the travel industry, and essential for the identification of an airline or a logistics company, its destinations and its traffic documents. They are also fundamental to the smooth running of hundreds of electronic applications which have been built around these coding systems for passenger and cargo traffic purposes.
