Air India Regional gets DGCA notice

New Delhi: Even before Air India Regional, the recently-formed regional services arm of Air India, could take off, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sent a notice to the company for not obtaining joint clearance of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Airport Authority of India (AAI) and DGCA. Air India Regional plans to launch its operations with a Delhi-Kanpur flight from September 20. Air India has decided to operate the new service with small aircraft like the 44-seater ATR turboprob.
“We have sent them a notice for not getting the joint clearance for starting operation to Kanpur, a defence enclave. However, they have assured us that they would get all essential approvals before finally starting the operation. We would allow them to start scheduled operation to Kanpur only when they meet the regulatory requirements,” a DGCA official told ET.
Air India’s communication department could not be contacted for comment. An email sent to them remained unanswered.
Air India Regional is also expected to start flying to Allahabad and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh with ATRs. The newly-created regional service division would also operate to other destinations with smaller aircraft having single-class configuration.
