Govt will approve Air India's fleet planning: Patel

New Delhi: Air India could finalise its plans to further augment its fleet strength by the year end and the government would not delay granting its approval to it, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said on Tuesday.
"If they complete their fleet planning by November-end, we can give in-principle approval by December," he told reporters here.
Before their merger, Air India had placed orders for 68 Boeing aircraft, while the erstwhile Indian planned to buy 43 planes from the Airbus Industries.
These planes were mostly meant for replacing their ageing fleet. With the air traffic demand growing rapidly, the newly-merged carrier is already in the process of finalising plans to further augment its fleet strength.
