Mayawati to upgrade state’s air fleet

Lucknow: The Mayawati government is all set to purchase a high-tech helicopter and a jet-engine aircraft at a cost of around Rs 55 crore.
The government has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the chief secretary to finalise the deal with a US-based company. The committee includes the principal secretaries of finance, civil aviation as well as the Indian ambassador to the US.
At present, the UP government has two choppers — a Bell 230 and a Chetak — from way back in 1989 and 1984 respectively. The state also owns four propeller-based Beech aircraft, the last bought in 2002.
Now, the government plans to purchase a Bell 430 helicopter at a cost of Rs 24 crore, besides a ten-seater Beech Craft Premier 1A costing Rs 30 crore.
