Traffic plan takes off for Delhi domestic airport

New Delhi: Delhi airport’s Terminal 1B for domestic flights sees 4.5 million departures every year, while the number of flights taking off per year from Terminal 1A is 1.5 million.
Given the figures, it is understood that the airport needs a traffic management plan, and the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has already finalised one. With the domestic airport witnessing maximum rush for low-cost carriers at present, DIAL plans to develop India’s first low-cost carrier terminal — a new, compliant and specially engineered Terminal 1B.
And in a first-of-its-kind step for the airport, DIAL is set to construct a flyover between Terminal 1A and 1B, segregating the traffic going towards both terminals to separate levels.
DIAL has already started working on the new and spacious Terminal 1B. Alongside, the new flyover will connect the new check-in at 1B at an elevated level, while a lower surface road will connect the city to 1A. Work on a new multi-storey parking area next to the existing 1B has also begun.
