Mumbai: The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), on Tuesday, awarded the contract for rehabilitation and resettlement of slums encroaching upon Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) land to real estate developer Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL).
The CSIA is severely constrained for space with 276 acres of its land encroached upon by slums. As part of the project, the company will have to relocate over 80,000 families.
The contract to HDIL was awarded after a competitive bidding process. This was part of the process initiated by MIAL, whereby Expressions of Interest (EOI) were invited from developers with required experience and resources and minimum eligibility criteria laid down in consultation with MMRDA to select a competent developer. MMRDA is playing the role of a Project Implementing Agency in the process.
