Malda: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has reacted sharply against the demolition of the wall at the Malda Airport on Wednesday. S K Chanda, officer in charge of AAI Malda. said, “This is a serious setback to the resumption of operations. We are shocked by the role of the district administration.”
Agitated people of Telipukur, Jahajfield, Kuladip Misra Colony and adjoining areas demolished a part of the wall of the Airport in protest against the closure of a road. At least 7,000 people of the area alleged that they would have no alternative road with the closure of the road by the airport authority.
People had earlier expressed fear that the wall would block their roads.
An angry Chanda said: “The administration knew about our plans for the last seven months but had not taken any initiative to lay an alternative road. Now, when we have constructed the wall, the administration is telling us to keep a hole in it as a passage for thoroughfare. Now if any plate is stolen who will take the responsibility?”
