Vasco: Dabolim airport may have opened its doors to night operations for civilian aircraft since October 15, but the response to nocturnal operations has been dismal.
In fact, only two airlines have so far confirmed night operations at Dabolim airport this month, followed by 10 flights in November and four flights in December.
Indian will be the first carrier to kick-off night operations at Dabolim airport, when a Kuwait-Goa flight arrives at 1.30 am on Monday, while the first night chartered flight arrives at 1.30 am on October 22.
Contrast these paltry figures to the day operations at Dabolim airport, which witnesses 31 domestic carriers each day and an average of 102 charter flights per month.
Admitting that the figures for night operations have been low, Airport Authority of India (AAI) Director at Dabolim Airport D Paul Manickam stated that most airline operators have been vying for a day slot.
