New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is planning grid of airports across the country in such a way that there will be an airport within 50 kms. radius from any point in the next ten years, according to a statement made by Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation. He was speaking at the annual Economic Editors Conference held in the city recently. He said that the government will have to find a way to have more than one airport in metros that are witnessing a heavy surge in air traffic. The current norms do not allow a second airport within a radius of 150 kms. from an existing operational airport unless an exception is made by the Union cabinet.
Patel also said that in the near future, operators will be encouraged to confine their activities to a particular region for ensuring enhanced air connectivity in all regions.
