MPs panel asks Finance Ministry to notify ATF as 'Declared Good'

New Delhi: Supporting a major demand of the aviation industry, a parliamentary committee has asked the Finance Ministry to notify jet fuel as 'Declared Good' on a priority basis to contain the sales tax rate at four per cent.
The Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture recommended that the Finance Ministry should "sympathetically consider and give approval to the proposal of Civil Aviation Ministry regarding notifying Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) as 'Declared Good' under Section 14 of Central Sales Tax Act on priority basis".
In its latest report tabled in Parliament today, the panel, headed by CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, also asked the Finance Ministry to discuss the issue with state governments and try to persuade them to reduce the sales tax on ATF.
