Panel on aviation takes exception to reports of near-misses

New Delhi: The Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Civil Aviation on Wednesday took a strong exception to the "misreporting" by the media about near-miss incidents involving aircraft flying on the Indian skies.
The parliamentary panel expressed concern and criticised the "misreporting" about near-misses as well as "other irresponsible" reporting about the aviation sector in the media, an official release said.
They were assured that the Ministry would take steps and carry out a campaign to educate people about the reality and the steps being taken to ensure safety and security in the Indian skies.
The observation on the misreporting on near-misses came a day after Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel stated at the Economic Editors Conference that "there is not a single incident which would have led to disastrous consequences. It is not that deviations (in procedures) do not occur and such occurrences are not tolerated".
