Air safety week shocks for DGCA

New Delhi: During the ‘Air Safety Week’ held between December 10 and 15, serious lapses came to the fore at both the Mumbai and Delhi airports. The DGCA teams found that airline crew, including the pilot, don’t take pre-flight briefing seriously and, in some cases, they give it the skip. Pre-flight briefings are crucial because the pilot gets updates on weather, navigation etc.
The biggest jolt came on Friday when a DGCA team joined Jet Airways officials who were carrying out a random alcohol test at Mumbai airport. They were shocked to find a pilot test positive.
The DGCA immediately suspended the pilot for three months. At Delhi airport, the DGCA team found out that flight crew and pilots of two domestic airlines just gave flight briefings the miss.
The DGCA team also found other rules being broken. In Delhi, airline vehicles were exceeding the speed limit of 15km/h.
