Calcutta: Flying on some private airlines may not be a pleasant experience during winter — not for fog-related delays, but because passengers may have to spend the night at the airport if there is any disruption.
JetLite has issued a circular, asking travel agents to mention to passengers during booking that “they will not be entitled to hotel accommodation and transportation in case of flight disruptions”.
Jet Airways has said it would not provide accommodation to passengers if a flight is diverted because of fog.
“Diversions are quite frequent during winter,” a Calcutta airport official said. On an average, three to four flights a day fail to land in Calcutta because of fog.... However, with the Category II instrumental lighting system in place, we expect much less diversions this year,” he added.
Tour operators fear a sharp fall in the sale of tickets because of the decision by the airlines. “They need to review their decision,” said a city-based tour operator.
Air India and Kingfisher have said they will provide hotel accommodation to passengers in case of a diversion.
