Forum for safer flights

Separate air corridors for arrival and departure of flights on busy routes, smaller gap between aircraft in flight and revamp of parking bays are among the measures the airport authorities are considering to make flight operations faster and safer.
The proposals came up at a meeting between senior Air Traffic Control (ATC) officials and pilots last week. A forum was formed to solve problems in smooth flight operations.
“This is the first time ATC officials and pilots have come together under an umbrella to make flight operations smoother,” said S.P.S. Bakshi, regional executive director (east), Airports Authority of India.
Separate air corridors are being contemplated on busy routes like Delhi, Mumbai, the Northeast and south India. During peak traffic, aircraft on these routes are often forced to wait for take-off or hover over the airport for permission to land.
