Lack of political will stalks Dabolim airport expansion plan

Panaji: Lack of political will and non-coordination between various agencies has hampered the task of Goa's Rs 500-cr Dabolim airport expansion project, says a trade body report.
"Each agency is blaming each other and the Navy is everybody's favourite in the blame game. It must be pointed out that decisions have already been taken, which will ensure that the present airport efficiently serves the people of the state for next fifteen years," Mark Rodrigues, President of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) infrastructure implementation committee, said in his recent report.
"What is lacking is coordination and planning by a multiplicity of agencies starting with the state government, moving on to the Airport Authority of India and ending with the Ministry of Civil Aviation," the report mentions.
The report, published by GCCI in its bulletin, fears that the Indian Navy-run Dabolim airport is "under severe strain and stretched to the point of collapse."
