Lowest air fares in peak season

Mumbai: It's that time of the year, and the airport terminal building is all decked up for the festive season with mistletoe and buntings. But something is amiss: the peak-season queues. This, despite the fact that for the first time in years, peak-season ticket rates have hit rock bottom.
Log on to any airline website, and you'll get an air fare list that resembles monsoon off-season fares.
"The fare is cheap by any standards. Last year, the Mumbai-Goa fares for December 31 (not specifically for Kingfisher) had touched Rs 15,000 by this time," says Vijay Kesavan, CEO, Akbar Travels online, a travel portal.
The reason for the unexpected downslide is the error of judgment on the part of the travel industry. Airlines' projections for this year were higher, and thus fares were raised. But there were no takers.
