Bhubaneswar: In yet another attempt to woo the people of western Orissa, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has reiterated his demand before the Centre to convert airstrip at Jharsuguda into an airport.
According to an official release issued on Tuesday, Patnaik has drawn the attention of Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel about the need for an airport at Jharsuguda.
Patnaik has also given a proposal that the airport be named after Vir Surendra Sai, a well-known freedom fighter in western Orissa who participated in the 1857 uprising.
As the mineral-rich western region of the State was witnessing establishment of mine-based industries, an airport was necessary to fasten the industrialisation process, Patnaik has said.
