Paramount Airways to expand operations

Chennai: Having consolidated its business in the south, Chennai-based Paramount Airways will expand its operations to western India by the end of next year, seek to establish “national presence,” and begin international operations by 2011, managing director M. Thiagarajan said here on Tuesday.
The airline, which now has a 26 per cent market share in the southern region, also announced an expansion in its southern operations. It will launch a direct service from Chennai to Visakhapatnam and begin flights to Tiruchirapalli in January. It plans to increase the frequency of flights to Bangalore and Hyderabad by next March, when new airports in the cities will be in operation.
Mr. Thiagarajan said the airline will effect a “staggered” expansion of its fleet starting next year, adding a total of 40 aircraft over the next four years. It currently operates five Embraer jets. It is “evaluating” the purchase of Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliners’ for its planned international operations.
