Mumbai: SITA is set to launch a worldwide agency booking module aimed at helping airlines substantially reduce their dependence on the CRS provided by GDS companies. The IT and communications solution provider in the air transport industry plans to launch the booking module in first half of 2008 across the globe including India. The product, according to Elyes M' Rad, Regional Vice President, Sales and Relationship Management, SITA, "will help airlines realise considerable cost savings, as well as establish direct relationships." Significantly, SITA's agency booking module will not entail a segment fee per transaction. SITA currently provides the booking engine for Jet Airways' low fare carrier Jet Lite.
SITA's customised booking engines for airlines will provide individual API for agents connected to the airlines' inventory. Interestingly, the world over, airlines adopt a combination of a CRS and direct agency interface depending on individual market realities.
