Star Aviation to fly low-cost in India

Dubai: Star Aviation, a firm controlled by a few Dubai-based non-resident Indian businessmen, has become the first to get a licence to operate a low-cost regional airline in India.
The new carrier will start operations with a fleet of three to five aircraft in south India, Syed Mohammad Salahuddin, managing director of Dubai-based ETA Ascon Group told Gulf News. "We intend to start operations within six to nine months and our immediate priority is to set up infrastructure across our destinations," he said.
Star Aviation got the licence to set up a regional low-cost carrier in South India under the recently modified regional airline policy in India. There are nearly half a dozen more applications pending before the Ministry of Civil Aviation in India.
The company has plans to set up its hub in one of the South Indian cities such as Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad and service the regional destinations of Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Vizag.
