AI-IA to decide on repair units

New Delhi: The National Aviation Company of India (NACIL) is likely to finalise two of the four proposed maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) units very shortly.
A team of French major Airbus Industrie is learnt to have begun deliberations with the company from Tuesday, and it will be formally asked to specify how much it is going to invest in the proposed facility.
Boeing, that has already said it will invest up to $100 million in the joint MRO with AI, will also send its team within a fortnight. Unlike Boeing, the aircraft purchase agreement with Airbus does not specify the amount they would be investing.
As suggested by Accenture, the merged Air India-Indian Airlines entity NACIL will be setting up four MROs - one each for Boeing and Airbus airframes; one for engines and the fourth for components.
