Airport for Kanyakumari on the cards

Nagercoil: The Government would soon take a decision to set up a civilian airport in Kanyakumari district, said Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan. The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation had accorded administrative sanction for the proposal.
Mr. Rajan inaugurated a five-day tourism festival at Kanyakumari and commissioned various facilities at the 133-foot-tall Thiruvalluvar statue here on Sunday. He said that the Government was expediting efforts to meet the demand of the people for an airport as 19 lakh tourists had visited Kanyakumari district in 2007.
Steps would be taken to introduce helicopter tourism by connecting important tourist destinations such as Chennai-Tirupati, Kanyakumari-Thiruvananthapuram and Madurai-Rameswaram.
