CISF takes lead in teaching staff to be courteous

Bangalore/Mumbai: All those working at domestic and international airports are being taught courtesy and polite behaviour through specially designed courses conducted by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and the CISF, which guards the airports. So next time you pass through any Indian airport do not be surprised if the security person at the entry gate holding a double-barrel gun or the terminal manager greets you with ‘Good morning sir/madam this way please’, ‘show me your ticket please’, ‘thank you’ instead of ‘kya hai? (What?)’, ‘ticket dikhao beta/uncle’ or ‘chalo hogaya’ (move, it is over).
The course emphasises polite behaviour, appropriate greetings, language, handling of difficult situations without agitating a passenger. “After checking the ticket or completing security checks, the staffer should say ‘thank you, have a safe flight’,” explained an AAI official.
The CISF had taken the lead by issuing a departmental circular last month providing a comprehensive guideline on standardised expressions of speech to avoid misinterpretation.
