An Indian man has been arrested for selling five fake visas, worth BD7,500, to a labourer.
The defendant had promised the victim that he would be able to get him the documentation for his family, so they could come and live in Bahrain, a Public Prosecution spokesman said yesterday.
"He had met the defendant through a friend of his who claimed that he would get him the visas in return of money," he said.
After reaching an agreement, the victim informed his family in India that they could come to Bahrain as he has got their visas ready.
They later arrived at the Bahrain International Airport expecting to receive their visas but the airport officials informed them that their visas were not legitimate.
"They said that the visas had wrong information on them and could not be used," said the spokesman. The Indian victim went to the airport expecting to see his family but instead found out they had been sent back to India, he said.
The man then informed the police about the scam and accused the defendant of selling him fake visas.
