Man held with fake currency

Mumbai: Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) sleuths of customs on Monday arrested a man at the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport for allegedly smuggling in Rs 14 lakh of fake Indian currency. Abid Nawab had alighted from a SriLankan Airlines flight coming from Karachi, and had concealed the currency in three chocolate boxes. Customs suspect that Nawab was trained in Pakistan to carry out activities like smuggling.
Nawab chose to walk through the green channel. On suspicion, the AIU officers on duty asked to examine his baggage.
A resident of Delhi, Nawab seems to have gone to Karachi for the first time. He allegedly dropped names before the customs officers in a bid to avoid arrest and also named Delhi police officers as his 'contacts'.
Nawab has told customs officers that the 'cash' had been handed over to him in Karachi by a man called Anees and that someone at the Mumbai airport was to collect it from him. His passport, issued from Delhi, is also being checked.
