New Delhi: Despite initial set backs, the ambitious dedicated regional airline project is still on tracks, with the Centre all set to appoint a new operator. Fresh bids from airline operators are slated to be opened, later this month. The Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) had to go for fresh bids because of poor response in the first bid.
The regional airline is currently being operated by Alliance Air. However, resentments over its services led the Ministry DoNER to look for private-public partnership. The Ministry has had held preliminary discussions with Deccan Air and Kingfisher Airline before firming up its plans.
The North Eastern Council (NEC) under DoNER Ministry pays a whopping sum of Rs 35 crore annually to subsidies operation of the four ATR 50 aircraft.
