New Delhi: Get ready to part with more information to immigration authorities at international airports, sea ports and land border posts. Government has decided to replace existing disembarkation and embarkation cards with new ones, seeking additional details from Indians and NRIs to address security concerns while also compiling tourism data.
The new cards, to be introduced soon, will have additional columns in D and E forms, asking NRIs and Indians to give specific details of the purpose of visits and names of every destination to be visited abroad or in India respectively.
"The data to be compiled with the help of additional information will help the security agency to find out 'unsolicited contacts' and 'unwanted liaisons'," said a senior home ministry official, adding the need was felt to keep a tab on the movement of suspected elements among citizens and NRIs in order to fight trans-border terrorism, organised crime and smuggling.
