'Pilots breach norms, allow visitors into cockpit'

New Delhi: In a serious breach of security norms put in place post 9/11 attack on New York, some domestic airline pilots have been found to allow guests inside the cockpit.
As per norms, pilots now have to lock cockpit door before even starting engine and only authorised cabin crew members can then go inside this sensitive operating area till the flight lands at destination.
According to sources in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), there have been cases where "pilots have allowed in passengers or accompanying people" into cockpit.
According to rules, the cockpit door has to be secured before takeoff. If a pilot has to leave the cockpit for some reason inflight, a cabin crew has to be inside to open the door for when he or she returns.
