New Delhi: In the light of incidents of pilots reporting drunk on duty, DGCA chief Kanu Gohain said surveillance checks were on for New Year's eve and immediate action would be taken against those who fail the tests.
"Knowing human psychology, we mount strict checks this time of the year on both pilots and cabin crew members. Some positive cases have been found in Mumbai. Action will be taken with airlines and they will be suspended for anywhere from a fortnight to a month. Their salary for the period of suspension will be deducted," Gohain, whom the government gave a second extension on Monday, said.
Each drunk cockpit and cabin crew members' profile will be checked. The action will be stricter if he or she had been caught earlier for a similar offence.
According to rules, pilots, commanders, navigators, engineers and cabin crew are not supposed to have liquor, sedatives, narcotics or stimulants within 12 hours of the flight they are to supposed operate.
