Search on for new chief of India's largest airline

New Delhi: The process of selecting a replacement for V Thulasidas — chairman and managing director of National Aviation Co India (NACIL), which was created through the merger of Air-India and Indian — has entered the final phase.
From a total of 55 applications, 16 candidates have been shortlisted by the three-member sub-committee — which consists of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PSEB) chairman, secretary, civil aviation, and secretary, personnel. These 16 names will be discussed with the search panel, headed by cabinet secretary K Chandrashekhar, to identify the likely appointee.
After the PESB clearance, two names will be forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet which would eventually clear the name. Out of the 16 candidates shortlisted, four are senior Nacil officials, six IAS officers and six heads of PSUs and armed forces. Mr Thulasidas retires on March 31 and a replacement for him would be in place before his retirement.
The basic pay scale mentioned in the civil aviation ministry advertisement is Rs 27,750 and this can go up to Rs 31,500 with an annual increment of Rs 750. There are, of course, various allowances and perks, though unlikely to match the compensation of most private sector jobs.
