Aggrieved Haj pilgrims seek compensation

Guwahati: The aggrieved Haj pilgrims from the State, who faced innumerable difficulties during their pilgrimage, have asked the Air India and the Haj Committee of India to pay compensation to each of the Hajjis who suffered due to the alleged recklessness of the authorities. Haj Welfare Committee, the newly formed committee of the Hajjis, has asked for a representation from both the authorities explaining the reasons of flight delay lose of luggage and the shabby treatment meted out to them on the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBIA), Kolkata and Jeddah International Airport, Saudi Arabia.
“We have asked for Rs 50,000 as compensation to each Hajji, who faced all these problems during their pilgrimage and we also demand to make public the contract signed between Air India and the Haj Committee of India, regarding the Haj pilgrimage,” said Zunaid Khalid, legal consultant of the Haj Welfare Committee in Guwahati.
