AI launches 1st non-stop Delhi-New York flight over North Pole

New York: The first non-stop Delhi-New York Air India flight over the North Pole arrived here in the wee hours carrying 110 passengers on board, in the process showcasing the capability of the new generation Boeing 777-200 Longer Range aircraft's performance.
For travellers on the 15-hour direct flight, it was a welcome step by the national carrier which has so far been carrying passengers on the India-US sector with a stopover in Europe.
Air India had last August launched the first non-stop flight to New York from Mumbai.
The aircraft later took off from here for direct flight to Delhi with as many as 223 passengers, including 195 in economy class.
To save time, these direct flights pass over the skies of the North Pole. While the flight from Delhi arrived at the JFK Airport at 0545 hours (local time), it departed the IGI Airport in Delhi at 1600 hours.
